My name is Matthew Pollock. I was born and raised in Muskingum County, east of Zanesville. I grew up helping my grandfather on his small farm and enjoying the great outdoors. I have been very passionate about hunting, trapping, fishing, and taxidermy from a young age and continue to pursue these hobbies.
In 2017, I graduated from John Glenn High School and
always knew I wanted to pursue a career in an outdoor/wildlife related field. That summer, I enrolled in the Wildlife Conservation Program at Zane State College. While at Zane State, I obtained an internship at The Wilds as
a Conservation Educator. There I got to teach children and young adults about our native species of wildlife as well as outdoor skills. After graduation from Zane State, I enrolled at Muskingum University where I achieved a bachelor's degree in Animal Studies and graduated in 2021. Within a few months of graduation, I was able to obtain a part-time job with the ODNR Division of Wildlife at Appalachian Hills Wildlife Area. There
I spent six months learning different wildlife habitat management techniques
and implementing them. In January of 2022, I accepted this full time position at Guernsey SWCD as the Wildlife/Forestry Specialist. Here I perform field visits and assessments of wildlife damage and nuisance complaints while working with landowners to help educate and prevent wildlife related conflicts. I also inspect notice of intents (NOI) for timber harvests, as well as investigate timber pollution. If I can lend you a hand in anyway, feel free to give me a call or send me an email!
